Brass plaque on base reads: "Loening OL-8A Amphibian Biplane, One of the four "Flying Seals". Named the Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka and Petersburg, they mapped 12,500 square miles of Southeast Alaska for the Department of the Interior in 1929.
The plane has an approximate 10" wing span, is made from fossilized ivory, and is mounted on a jade base in a glass case which measures about 12x14x18 inches.
