"Douglas World Cruiser"

This model is 1/48 scale, about twelve inches wingspan, and is crafted in million year old brown mastodon and white walrus ivory.

On April 6, 1924, four of these aircraft, the "Seattle", the "Boston", the "Chicago", and the "New Orleans", departed Seattle, Washington, on the first around-the-world cruise. The "Seattle" crashed about thirty miles from Port Moller, Alaska, on April 30, 1924. The "Boston" was lost between the Orkneys and the Faroe Islands. The "Chicago" and "New Orleans", along with another DWC, "Boston 2", completed the flight in 175 days, returning to Seattle on September 28. Total distance flown: 26,345 miles, flying time: 363 hours, 7 minutes, Average speed: 72.5 mph, longest hop: 830 miles from Iceland to Greenland, scheduled stops: 69.
